7 Quick Takes Friday!

--- 1 ---
Yesterday was the last day of school for our biggest girl! I'm always a little in shock at each milestone. I officially have a 2nd grader and a Kindergartner now.

--- 2 ---

Our littlest one (outside of the womb), has been sick this week. She gets "sick with style," as I call it, and really freaked me out. I took her to the ER, and they looked at me like I was insane, gave her Motrin, and sent us home. Whatever!! I'm not messing around with sickness with her, after she got severely dehydrated last year and had to spend a night in the hossy. She's feeling a bit better now, but she's still not 100%.

--- 3 ---

We should have USCIS approval by next week! Just waiting on FBI clearances, again... and then we will submit. FINALLY!

--- 4 ---

My glasses broke this morning and I don't have a spare pair. I am not happy, this is the second time they've broken in a month. This time I don't have the money to fix them. Guess I'll be staying home.

--- 5 ---
An online friend of mine, Rebecca, who blogs over at www.shovedtothem.blogspot.com, has written a book about homeschooling!! I'm betting it's amazing, since she's amazing and witty. But I have a hard time reading books lately, so I haven't read it. But seriously, it's on sale right now for an actual book, and you can get it on Kindle, too!! Check it out!

--- 6 ---

I love Bl. Mother Teresa. I will never, ever understand people that are out to criticize her or spread lies about her. If you think you are more holy than Bl. Mother Teresa, I think you *may* have a problem.

--- 7 ---

This "baby" girl is TEN, folks. She is tied to her crib because the nannies can't stand her getting into to things, you know, exploring like a child does. She needs OUT.

Can you help? Pray, share, donate, or maybe you are her mommy?

Happy summer!

Worn

The Lord gives me a songs that suit my situations perfectly fairly often. This is my new one. I'm sure many people have blogged and shared this one before. I need to keep my eyes on Jesus.

Tenth Avenue North - Worn
From the album The Struggle

I'm tired
I'm worn
My heart is heavy
From the work it takes to keep on breathing

I've made mistakes
I've let my hope fail
My soul feels crushed
By the weight of this world
And I know that you can give me rest
So I cry out with all that I have left

Let me see redemption win
Let me know the struggle ends
That you can mend a heart that's frail and torn

I want to know a song can rise
From the ashes of a broken life
And all that's dead inside can be reborn
Cause I'm worn

I know I need
To lift my eyes up
But I'm too weak
Life just won't let up
And I know that You can give me rest
So I cry out with all that I have left

Let me see redemption win
Let me know the struggle ends
That you can mend a heart that's frail and torn

I want to know a song can rise
From the ashes of a broken life
And all that's dead inside can be reborn
Cause I'm worn

And my prayers are wearing thin
I'm worn even before the day begins
I'm worn I've lost my will to fight
I'm worn so heaven come and flood my eyes

Let me see redemption win
Let me know the struggle ends
That you can mend a heart that's frail and torn

I want to know a song can rise
From the ashes of a broken life
And all that's dead inside can be reborn
Yes all that's dead inside will be reborn
Though I'm worn
Yeah I'm worn

7 Quick Takes

--- 1 ---

This has been a rough week, emotionally. We are fully funded for the adoption, which is such a huge blessing. But we have hit a huge delay (FBI is SLOW!), which means we will likely not be able to travel until winter.

--- 2 ---

Tomorrow we go for our USCIS fingerprints. So at least that will be done.

--- 3 ---

A friend of mine is selling shirts to benefit 3 Chinese orphanages and could really use some sales! Check out these nice and comfy shirts, and buy a couple!

--- 4 ---

So sorry for the delay on drawing the winners for our Disney giveaway! I promise that as soon as the money shows up in our FSP, we will draw! I can't wait!!

--- 5 ---
Check out this wonderful blog post by my amazing friend JoAnna, who just found out her baby (due the same week as our baby), has club feet.

--- 6 ---

Coldstone HQ has free ice cream events now and then for training and charity, and we went yesterday! It was tasty! The girls were *SO* hyper afterwards, though.

--- 7 ---

Next week is the last week of school! EEK!! I am not ready for the looooooong summer!!

Happy Memorial Day weekend! Remember to pray for those who have lost their lives fighting for our freedom, and their families and friends who miss them.

God is good. All the time.

Adoption is so scary.

"Jump off this cliff," says God.

"Sure," you say.

And you scream, freak out, fight, kick, doubt, cry, and scream some more.

And then...

He catches you.

I consider myself a devout Catholic. I always believe and follow, even when it hurts. But I am human, and I still doubt Him sometimes. We have been through so much with this adoption, that at times all I wanted was to be told why He was doing this to us and what the purpose was and how He was going to provide. I worked my tail off fundraising and doing paperwork and then found out we could not bring Nico home. And then we found out we were expecting. And then we committed to "Colton". And we did more paperwork and more fundraising. We had some hangups, and I had to push through the nausea and the fatigue to get all of it worked out. Then we found out that summer tickets are double what they are any other time of year. Our fully funded number changed. And we pushed on, but with concern that we would not raise enough in time.

I have seen money fall from Heaven time and time again for other families. I never expected it to happen for us. I figured we would work our fingers to the bone and struggle until the last minute and barely squeak by.

God was lovingly laughing at us from Heaven.

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

That happened to be the reading the day I found out...

Thursday, we announced that we are expecting a little boy in October. Not even an hour after that, I received a phone call saying that "Colton" had been chosen as one of the children to benefit from a dinner and auction someone was hosting in Texas. And, that they had raised ALL of the money we needed to be completely funded. I didn't know about this event, and I don't know these people. This was God at work, through these amazing people.

We do not have to worry about where money will come from to pay for the insanely expensive plane tickets. We do not have to worry about scraping by if there is an emergency. We do not have to worry about things back home while we are gone.

And we never did. Some day I will learn not to worry. I say that all the time. But, some day I hope to learn to trust. Because He does provide, and will, if you jump.

Thank you to all of you who have not only donated, but worked, HARD for us, praying, spreading the word, being emotional support, all of it was an essential part to bringing our boy home.

For all the miracles, thank you Jesus.

Thank you, Blessed Mother Teresa, for praying for us through all of this.

Thank you, Blessed John Paul II, for praying for us.

Thank you, body of Christ here on earth, for being the hands and feet of Jesus and helping us bring this boy home.

Only good things ahead.

Immensely blessed and unworthy of it all.

7 Quick Takes Friday!

--- 1 ---

Adoption might be the WORST thing to go through if you are someone without much patience. I am a person that enjoys logic. There is very little that is logical about this process.

  • Get fingerprinted 3 times each.
  • Search for a month for a doctor who will sign a paper in blue ink only.
  • Change your passport because *gasp* it has a space in your last name that shouldn't be there! The  HORROR!!!
  • Spend over $100 on fancy stickers that proves your notary is legit.
  • Get FBI clearances because the first FBI clearances you received from your state weren't good enough for the country you are adopting from.
  • Spend weeks in a foreign country.

--- 2 ---

Yes, it's worth it. But it's like pregnancy and childbirth, it pretty much sucks until you have the sweetie in your arms.

--- 3 ---

Um. This Quick Take was dedicated to our giveaway, but, guess what??? It will be replaced with some screaming in joy, because we are fully funded!! As soon as our FSP reflects the money, we will draw winners!

I can not express what a huge deal this is. What a huge weight off our shoulders. I can't stop crying and I'm so grateful. AGH!! Thank you all so much.

--- 4 ---

Our 2nd daughter had her last day of preschool this week. Yes, I got teary-eyed. Milestones kill me. I am so proud of my girls, and seeing them grow bigger is so amazing, yet heartbreaking at the same time!

Lily and her amazing teacher!
--- 5 ---

I am in total burn out mode as far as meals go. I'm hoping the adoption trip will kind of reset it all for me, because man, I am tired of cooking and planning meals.

--- 6 ---
In case you missed our news!

The Lord is blessing us with TWO little boys this year! I am 20 weeks pregnant! :)

--- 7 ---

We are also still collecting money for diapers for "Colton's" orphanage! That button is on the side bar!

Thank you all for your support thus far. It's been so amazing to see and experience this whole process, crazy as it is.

Happy weekend!!

Colton's Happiest Place Giveaway!

This giveaway is done! We will draw names in the next few days!!! Thank you, all!!

We have been through quite the emotional roller coaster with this adoption and have had to make the decision to adopt another little guy from Eastern Europe. We lost about 3 months of fundraising, and Colton's country moves very quickly. Colton's birthday is in April, so what better way to celebrate than to raise some money to bring him home?! We plan on taking a family vacation to Disney in January, since every kiddo (especially one who has spent his whole life in an orphanage!) needs to experience it, and after the year we've had, we need some fun!

So, without further ado, check out our prizes!

First Prize!!

(These will be PDFs emailed to the winner of the giveaway.)

The amazing donor of these prizes would like for this giveaway to raise at least $5,000, so that is our goal. This giveaway will run until we meet or exceed that goal.

The giveaway tracker will be on our sidebar, so you can watch the progress!

Thank you all for being a part of Colton's journey home! Good luck!

We answer to God...

We've had many, many comments over the years about the amount of children we have. I am not sure why anyone is surprised I have 4 kids, because I've always wanted a "large" family. I'm also not exactly sure why people (strangers and non-strangers alike) think our family is their business.

We've been asked if we were going to get "fixed" countless times. Fertility is not a disease and I refuse to treat it as such. So, no, we will not be getting "fixed."

Our children have each been a different and individual blessing.

Are we busy? Yes. Are we tired? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes. Because this is our vocation, and we grow and learn every day because of them.

Are we perfect parents? Of course not. We are learning, like any other parents out there. Our children are loved and cared for, and that's what matters.

So, when we announced we were adding a 5th child, but this time through the SUPER illogical, SUPER expensive, SUPER insane process of international adoption, it was not well received by all. When Russia shut down, most people grieved with us for sweet Nico. Some people were relieved. But we had spent thousands already, had state approval, had all our ducks in a row for an adoption, and countless children are suffering without parents in the world, so we pushed on. We will pick up "Colton" from Eastern Europe this summer.

And then, come October, we will be adding a 6th child...

Meet our baby BOY!:

Due October 3rd, but we are hoping for October 4th, St. Francis' feast day!

We know people will think we're crazy. We know that people will worry. All have valid concerns. Yes, we are adopting while pregnant. Yes, our lives will be hectic for a good while. But, we answer to God, and God has told us time and time again that children are a blessing, not a curse. And we are thankful that The Lord has chosen to bless us with such amazing little ones.

We are excited to see how 2013 unfolds. We hope you can rejoice with us and support us.

7 Quick Takes Blah Blah

--- 1 ---

Well, apparently people aren't as curious as I thought about our adoption process. I put up a post asking for questions for a Q&A and got one... Oh well! :) Deleted it.

--- 2 ---

Our auction is going fairly well, and it ends Sunday! Please get your bids in, this could be a huge chunk out of the rest of the money we need for our adoption if it goes well.

--- 3 ---

I have had a head cold all week, which is making for very interesting days. I get the baby to sleep and pass out right after her, leaving the big kids to tuck themselves in. It makes me sad, but I'm officially in survival mode this week.

--- 4 ---

We finally hit $3,000 raised for our Disney giveaway! It's been hard work, but I am astounded and so grateful! Once we hit $5k, we will draw the winners. I cannot wait for that day! <3

--- 5 ---

Next week is Lily's last day of preschool. We had a little Mother's Day tea with her on Thursday. It was so sweet. Her teacher did a great job. I'm not a fan of Mother's Day, but the school stuff is nice. :)

--- 6 ---

We will hopefully be traveling in July to pick up "Colton". Everyone keeps saying how HOT it is there. So I looked, and their average temp in July is 77... Um... And very little humidity. Sounds like heaven to me. In July our average in Phoenix is 102, mkay? 77 will be GLORIOUS!

--- 7 ---

I don't have much to say, I'm still in a fog over here. Pray for us as we finish up the final paperwork and fundraising!

OH! Seriously, does anyone else have horrible trouble finding shoes? I can never find them in my size when I find the ones I want. I want to get some Crocs Mary Janes for the trip, so I don't have to pack socks, and they are super comfortable, but can also look nice, but no one has them in size 10. BLAH!!! I can't find anything else I like that would work for it, either!

Like these!

Happy weekend!

7 Quick Takes Freitag

--- 1 ---

I'll start with the fundraisers first and get them out of the way. You know you want to help us reach our goals and bring our son home! What better way of doing that then to enter our Disney contest and possibly win a trip?! We are traveling in about 2 months, and I would love to be done with this fundraising! Even if you can't donate, please spread the word somehow.

http://catholic-kara.blogspot.com/2013/03/coltons-happiest-place-giveaway.html

--- 2 ---

We also have a really neat fundraiser going until Sunday, it's Usborne Books! Lots of goodies for your kiddos. Beautiful books, games, and activities! We get 25% of all sales!

--- 3 ---

We also have an auction starting on Sunday on Facebook! Lots of goodies there to bid on!

--- 4 ---

Okay, phew. Some day this blog will be back to my normal ramblings. I can't wait for that day. We are sending some more paperwork today and are hoping everything else comes together quickly. Once we are submitted, the real scramble begins, because we will only have a few weeks and then a couple days notice to get there. So, we'll have to make sure childcare and everything else is lined up so we are able to leave quickly! EEK!!

--- 5 ---

May is sweet Nico's birthday month. He is turning 3 without a family. We should've at least been able to hold him by now. Sigh. Pray for our sweet boy.

--- 6 ---

I just sent off USCIS today! I am so excited and relieved. PHEWWWWW!

--- 7 ---

I don't have much of substance to post this week, apparently... Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. My oldest is going to a dance with her daddy tonight. :) Can't wait to hear how it goes.
