7 Quick Takes Friday

--- 1 ---

Hi, I'm Kara, your neighborhood Facebook addict. I am fasting from it today in order to pray for the Bishops of our country. I decided that I would pray each time I thought about logging in. Let's just say it's 8:30 am and I've already said about 10 prayers. I have a problem.

--- 2 ---

Speaking of FB addiction, I heard on the radio this morning that they did a study of FB addicts and that it's harder to quit than smoking and the urges are stronger. lol!!

--- 3 ---

Truth is, I really needed the break. This week has been insane. HHS Mandate, Susan G Komen, and more, I'm pretty much in burnout mode.

--- 4 ---

I went to the dentist yesterday for the first time in 8 years. I had to take Charlotte, but the staff played with her when she got fussy and carried her around. She did great. I have NO cavities and they were shocked. But, I do have level 3 TMJ and am in need of therapy, a mouth guard, and probably surgery to reconstruct the joint. :-/ Can you hear the cha-ching???

For those of you fighting the fight, this postby Leila is perfect (and read the comments!!):

Time for courage, Catholics! Be kind, not "nice"….

--- 6 ---

SO, in general I have pretty crummy birthdays. But this year, I got a BIG surprise, and it's not even my birthday for 2 more weeks!! JoAnna, Danya, and Leila sent me a bread maker!! (I haven't been able to se it yet, need to get to the store!!)

Here's a funny little story:

We were in the car on the way home from picking up Amelia from school. Amelia saw a FedEx truck and started talking about how daddy works for them and then asked if we ever get packages at our house. I told her that yes, we do, sometimes. Like, if I buy something or if someone sends us a gift. She was excited thinking about it and talked the whole way home.

So, we get home, get in the house, and immediately hear the dog barking. UPS was parked outside and I was confused, since I wasn't expecting a package, and we had JUST talked about it 5 minutes ago, lol. Well, it was a big ol' box. I opened it, and the first thing I saw was "breadmaker" and I started crying. Then I found the paper that said who it was from, and I was a blubbering mess.

I am so blessed to have found these ladies. I have been trying to find my "place" in the Catholic world for so long and have struggled to find a community of friends since my bestie left for the convent. This group of ladies is a blessing from God, and my soul feels at ease.

I really should of made that a separate blog post!!!! But thank you, thank you, thank you! For making me feel special, and for being such a huge blessing in my life! /endsappyquicktake

I scored free "Cultural Passes" from the library for the Science Center. We haven't made it down there yet, due to naughty children and other obstacles, but I'm hoping next week. If my kids are super nice today we might still go, but I'm doubting it. Yesterday was terrible. Are any of your kids still in "naughty mode" from Christmas, or is it just my lunatics?

Happy weekend!!

  1. #1 - I'm a fellow addict. I gave FB up for Lent last year and it was SO hard. I had to delete the app off my phone and everything. But I think I'll follow your lead today.

#6 - that is so funny about your convo with Amelia! It is a total "God coincidence," because I had no clue the package would get there so fast, given I'd chosen the free shipping; I was just hoping it'd make it there by your birthday!

At any rate, I hope you enjoy it. You're a terrific friend and we wanted to do something to make sure you knew you were loved. <3 I'm going to send you a bunch of bread machine recipes. (I have an entire cookbook of them!)

  2. I "gave it up" for Lent too. But then my friend's daughter was diagnosed with cancer and I had to reactivate to be there to support her. I am so bad about disciplining myself, anyway. It was hard! Today is hard and it's only one day!!

I know!! It was too funny.

Thank you! That'll be great. And you guys definitely made me feel loved!! <3 I will not fear yeast, I will not fear yeast..... >_>

  3. 1. I think you have increased my habit because I LOVE tag teaming with you! It is seriously my form of entertainment and it's so much fun! I seriously wait to see what comes out of your mouth! LOL I love it!

But I have accidentally already logged on 2 times and am also fasting....You would think I would just get to cleaning or whatever but I'm wondering around like a lost dog! :(

I haven't done laundry all week and haven't cooked dinner the past two nights. But I haven't been feeling well either...But there is also some major fb addicting going on...Especially right now. :)

I know by tomorrow I will be unblocked from the SGK site and I'll be back in business baby!!! :)

So glad you live so close to the Catholic mafia! I'm so jealous! ;) I would stalk them daily if I lived there. :)

  4. LOL, it'll be good for all of us to have a day off. I'm sorry I added to your addiction, but that's hilarious. ;)

You getting banned from commenting was the highlight of my week, hahahahaaa!! I can barely post there, it hurts my head too much.

I keep trying to log in out of habit. I really need therapy or something. But I logged into the chat to check my messages, and that's it so far. So I think I'm doing good. I'm also just replacing it with too many blogs, but at least my BP isn't through the roof, and I AM praying a lot, so I'm doing what I intended to.

Um, laundry, yeah. We won't talk about laundry in MY house. Scary.

I am too. I'm really lucky. I was so blessed to have such a close friend when I converted, but when she joined the Dominicans, I was left alone. It was so hard just being on my own, as a convert, in a new world, without her. So, now I finally feel like I am where I'm meant to be. I wish you lived here, we'd have a blast.

  5. my in-laws gave me a breadmaker and i absolutely love it! and if i did a prayer to combat my facebook addiction, i'd be praying all. the. time:)

  6. Exactly, Bia! I've been praying all day, hahahaha!!! Hopefully it helps!

  7. Facebook is definitely my favorite way to kill time too.

  8. Is it sad that I asked someone not fasting from FB today what was going on since the whole Komen thing was released!!!! Ahhhhhhh!!!

My laundry is almost done and I'm going to clean the kitchen!

I totally understand the need for true Catholic friendships. I'm not even a convert. I always learn a ton from the converts though! :)

  9. I love that you pray everytime you think of going on Facebook! What a perfect spiritual exercise! I would pray waaaaaaay more if I did that.

  10. No, it's not bad. I've asked one of my friends what's going on a couple times. lol

Converts are awesome! *pats self on back* JK. But yeah, it's a whole other world with true, faithful Catholic friends. They're like, the best thing ever.

Tricia, it's really been great! I've been praying all day! Just short little prayers for the Bishops and priests and all the faithful Catholics. We must stand up against this nonsense. They have to know that we will not let them get away with it.

  11. Actually, there are religious exemptions to the HHS mandate.

    You're welcome.

  12. Jen, are you a troll?

Go read the reply Meg posted in response to this same exact comment you made on Leila's blog. Oh, here, I'll copy/paste it for you:

And here's what Leila said, too:

"Jen, that is a complete joke of an exception! It is meaningless. We already knew that churches proper will be "exempt", but not any Catholic institution or entity that hires or serves non-Catholics! For example, Catholic hospitals, schools, charities, etc!

The White House's little "statement" of how amazing they are and how much they've done for Catholics just makes me a little bit more energized and ready to fight them just a little bit harder. I despise disingenuousness."

  13. Jen, posting the same false and outdated over and over at different Catholic blogs won't make it true.
